Application Development
Highlighting the need of application development, the module introduces to the application development tools. It gives hand-on exercises covering customisation of interfaces, GIS software architecture, COM technology, Macros, DLLs etc. The final part involves development of a GIS application development in Visual Basic environment.
ESRI Virtual Campus Courses
ESRI Virtual Campus contains a variety of courses focusing on basic GIS skills to professional level expertise. UNIGIS International Association has made special arrangements with ESRI to avail most of these courses for the benefit of UNIGIS Students. You go through many of them, partially of fully, while doing various UNIGIS Course modules. There is also a possibility to choose some other courses relevant to the area in which you want to specialise your knowledge and skills.
GIS Applications in Coastal Zone Research and Management
Growing pressures due to development and pollution have made environmental assessment and management a new priority in coastal zone research. Case study exercises include: Shrimp habitat inventory, Aquaculture suitability analysis, Eelgrass mapping from low-altitude aerial video imagery, Modelling sea level rise and the effects of database error, Bathymetric modeling from satellite imagery, Change analysis using satellite imagery, Quantifying beach sand erosion and deposition, Viewshed analysis. The module is entirely in English.
GIS Applications in Forestry
This module explores the important role of GIS in forest management and resource assessment. Case study exercises include: General forest management and GIS, Mapping suitable locations for reforestation, Forest management, Analyzing deforestation and soil loss using AVHRR and TM imagery. The module is entirely in English.
GIS and Mountain Environments
This module explores the unique considerations that mountain characteristics pose to the GIS user in any field who works within a mountain environment. Case study exercises include: Modelling mountain characteristics in raster and vector and interpreting information derived from each model, Querying land use, elevation and aspect relationships, Classification of satellite imagery, Cost-distance modelling of access to health care, Modelling the impact of mountains on regional climates, Predicting the distribution of ecological units. The module is entirely in English.
