UNIGIS Salzburg, the Centre for Geoinformatics or the UNIGIS International Association are affiliated with most prominent international associations, consortia and organisations whose activities focus on better understanding of GIScience and Technology, further development in its highly specialized areas, education and information exchange, and its promotion in society.


Association of Geographic Information Laboratories in Europe (AGILE)

The mission of AGILE is to promote academic teaching and research on Geographic Information Science by representing the interests of those involved in GI-teaching and research at the national and the European level, and the continuation and extension of existing networking activities.

Geographical Information Systems International Group (GISIG)
 

The Geographical Information Systems International Group was constituted in 1992 and is a sectoral non-profit making Association on Geographical Information Systems (GIS) grouping about 100 Organisations from more than 20 European countries.

GISIG aims at realising the co-operation among GIS operators through the promotion and development of joint European projects (in the field of education and training, research and development, as well as regional development policies).

The Geospatial Information & Technology Association (GITA)

The Geospatial Information & Technology Association mission is to provide excellence in education and information exchange on the use and benefits of geospatial information and technology in telecommunications, infrastructure, and utility applications worldwide. The organization's membership has grown to include more than 2,200 individuals, 140 user affiliates, and 150 vendor companies.

Open Geospatial Consortium, Inc. (OGC)
 

The Open Geospatial Consortium, Inc. is an international industry consortium of 348 companies, government agencies and universities participating in a consensus process to develop publicly available interface specifications.

OpenGIS® Specifications support interoperable solutions that "geo-enable" the Web, wireless and location-based services, and mainstream IT. The specifications empower technology developers to make complex spatial information and services accessible and useful with all kinds of applications.

University Consortium for Geographic Information Science (UCGIS)

The University Consortium for Geographic Information Science  is a non-profit organization of universities and other research institutions dedicated to advancing our understanding of geographic processes and spatial relationships through improved theory, methods, technology, and data.

UCGIS membership is open to all U.S. academic and research organizations, as well as other organizations, that meet the membership criteria. Member Institutions will have the opportunity to participate in reviewing and setting national research priorities in GIS specialties.
